Acoustic Asylum is a Binghamton area acoustic band. They perform a variety of music, including blues, rock, and folk-rock. Some of the material they cover is original.
The core of Acoustic Asylum comprises Rev and Don Cashimere. The band is typically rounded out by a percussionist (usually Jeremi Dickins) and another performer. This has most often been Ken Foster on third guitar, harmonica, and additional lead vocals, but can also include horns, other harmonica players, or a third string player using a variety of different instrument sounds.
Rev, Don, and Ken all sing lead on various songs. Most lead guitar is played by Rev, either on a “traditional” acoustic guitar or, when playing slide, on a Dobro resonator guitar. When coupled with harmonica, percussion, and possibly wind, this can make for a swampy, or often a very danceable, version of acoustic rock and blues.
The band also takes spontaneous musical “journeys,” losing themselves in improvisational jams that can become both hypnotic and funky, setting them apart from other acoustic acts.
Acoustic Asylum’s next date is Friday, December 1 at Abel’s Pub in Binghamton, from 7-10 pm.
